Research into other horror movies
In the opening scene
of Ghost Ship, it focusses on the Protagonist who you already see is alone and
vulnerable. and the theme of the movie is quickly made apparent.
In the opening scene
of ‘Friday the 13th’, the children and camp leaders are singing
hallelujah which is about going to heaven which foreshadows what is about to
happen. When the attacker kills the camp leaders, you see the deaths from the
perspective of the attacker with a point of view shot. This creates a sense of
ambiguity as to who the killer is.
In the opening scene
of ‘Dawn of the Dead’. One example of Mise en Scene is that they use extensive
makeup on the actors who are playing zombies and close up shots are used of the
antagonist in order to try and shock the audience.
In the opening scene
of ‘IT’, screechy music is used to put the audience on edge and convey a sense
that there is something strange going on.
The juxtaposition of
happy music against the dark iconography as seen in The Autopsy of Jane Doe and
10 Cloverfield Lane’s trailers. This makes the audience feel on edge and tense.
In the opening scene
of ‘The Babysitter’, the audience gets no indication that this is a horror
movie and seems as if it is a Rom Com. As the film develops it becomes a horror
movie and one of the two protagonists in the film becomes the antagonist.
