Further research into horror movies
In the opening scene of Insidious we are made aware of the main protagonist and the anti-protagonist. The Location is set using a master shot, making the audience aware of the main location where the story is being set. However, before all of this information is provided to the audience we have the opening credits foreshadowing what will happen at the end of the film, creating an ominous atmosphere. `The use of black and white (binary opposite); the black was more dominant showing the audience how the evil has become more dominant over the purity of the white. At the beginning of the first scene their non-diegetic sound which is used to put the audience on edge (as they specifically use a distorted violin throughout the opening pre-scene). Moreover, we also see the use of silence within the first scene to create a sense of spookiness.
